Walter Duggan
Consolidated, Primary to Grade Six opened its doors in 1989. It replaced
the Chelsea and Church Street Schools within the town and it also
incorporated the students living in the surrounding rural areas. When
the Victoria Street School closed, Walter Duggan became the only
remaining elementary school. Recently, with the closure of Highland
Middle School, the former high school, Walter Duggan Consolidated School
became the only remaining school in the town of Westville.
Our school was named in honor of Walter Duggan who was the Mayor of
the town of Westville from 1963 to 1988, he was the Chairperson of the
Westville School Board from 1963-1982 and was the Chairperson of the
Pictou District School Board from 1982-1988.
